A Pill That Sees Your Digestive Tract From the Inside
Some parts of your digestive tract are difficult to examine using conventional methods. Thanks to the miniaturized technology behind capsule endoscopy, we can see the entire digestive tract without surgery. We often recommend capsule endoscopy when the patient experiences obscure GI bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or gluten intolerance.
Capsule endoscopy is a painless procedure that allows us to examine the lining of the middle segment of the gastrointestinal tract, which is difficult or impossible using traditional endoscopy. Capsule endoscopy uses a tiny wireless camera to take pictures of the entire digestive tract as the pill travels through your system. The camera sits inside this vitamin-sized capsule and takes thousands of pictures that are transmitted to a recorder you wear around your waist or over your shoulder.
It’s a simple procedure. You fast overnight (easy for most people to do) then swallow the pill-cam in the morning. After the images are sent to the recorder, we view them in high resolution on a computer screen for more accurate diagnosis and more effective treatment.
